What is the best time to visit Sardinia?

Thanks to its prime location as a Mediterranean island, Sardinia's temperatures range from 31 to 6 degrees Celsius throughout the year, with short, wet summers and somewhat cooler, windier winters. For this reason, the main recommendation is to visit Sardinia in the high season months, i.e. between early June and early September. However, the climate and weather conditions are usually quite good for a yacht charter in Sardinia in the autumn or spring months.

Should I charter a private yacht with or without a skipper?

You will find that many yachts on Scansail come with the option to charter with or without a skipper. While it is possible to sail a bareboat, there are many advantages to having a skipper on board with you. For example, a professional skipper will take care of all the sailing, docking and anchoring of the yacht. This ensures that you can sit back and fully relax as someone else handles all the technical aspects. Moreover, a skipper will be familiar with the regional area and the Mediterranean Sea as a whole. This way, you can be sure to have a safe and comfortable experience as they guide you through all the hidden coves and bays.

What to do in Sardinia?

Sardinia stands out for its nature, its mountains and its colourful rivers. For this reason, we have some recommendations to help inspire your luxury yacht charter.

Sail along the Costa Smeralda and enjoy the white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. If you seek a lively atmosphere with artisanal shops and buzzing streets, head to Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo until you reach Corsica. For a quiet plan on dreamy beaches, you can charter a boat near Cagliari. From there you can visit Terra Mala, Notteri or Solana, passing through the village of Villasimius, until you reach the paradisiacal Punta Molentis. When you want to disembark from your private yacht charter, visit the Gennargentu National Park and go to the unspoilt coves such as Cala Luna or Goloritze along the Gulf of Orosei. These are great places for snorkelling and scuba diving!

Once you set foot on land after having enjoyed your yacht charter in Sardinia, you cannot leave this beautiful Mediterranean island without having visited the magical village of Castelsardo, considered one of the most beautiful in Italy: on the top of the mountain that presides over the village you will find the magnificent and characteristic castle of Sardinian origin, more than a thousand years old.

You can also visit Neptune’s Grotto on the west coast of the island. Here, you’ll find a cave in the middle of Capo di Caccia, which will allow you to enjoy a vast interior lake full of millenary stalactites and stalagmites that you will never forget. You can also navigate down to San Pietro island for a day trip to the southwest of the island. Otherwise, on the east coast, you can find the village of Santa Maria. This charming port village is covered in rocky cliffs and hidden coves. Our top recommendation is to explore at your own leisure, but a few special recommendations include travelling up to Cala Gonone or Cala di Volpe.

Just 20 minutes from Sardinia’s port of Palau lies the breathtaking Maddalena Islands. This archipelago is a great place to find stunning, tranquil beaches with crystalline waters. If you want to feel like you are on a private island, venture through some of the seven large islands and 55 islets to find translucent waters for peace and quiet.
