Kotor was one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I visited on my trip. Nestled between huge mountains and a calm bay, it has a charm that feels both old-world and easygoing. The Old Town is full of character, with narrow cobbled streets, medieval architecture, and cozy little cafés where you can sit for hours without feeling rushed. I especially enjoyed just walking through the town early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s quieter. The views from the fortress above Kotor are worth the climb, especially at sunset. Food was reasonably priced and the locals were kind and welcoming. For those visiting, I’d recommend staying a bit outside the tourist core if you prefer a slower pace, and taking at least one day to explore the bay — either by foot, bike, or boat. Kotor is not a place to rush; it’s best enjoyed slowly.

I booked a sailing trip with Tripo on the Bavaria Cruiser in Kotor for my birthday, and it was honestly the perfect way to spend the day. From the first message, Tripo was friendly, responsive, and genuinely thoughtful — the kind of host who makes you feel looked after without being overbearing. The boat was spotless, comfortable, and clearly well cared for, and the sailing itself was beautiful and peaceful. But what really stood out was Tripo’s calm, easygoing presence. He clearly knows the area well, and there was a quiet confidence in how he handled everything. He gave space when needed but was also engaging and kind — the kind of person you’re genuinely glad to share a few hours on the water with. It didn’t feel like a “tour” — it felt like a real experience, hosted by someone who enjoys what he does and takes pride in offering something special. I’d absolutely recommend booking with him if you’re ever in Kotor. It was a great value and a day I’ll remember for a long time.

Our boating experience with Ilija was fantastic! He was an outstanding host, making us feel welcome from the moment we stepped onboard. The boat itself was beautiful, comfortable, and fully equipped with everything we needed. Ilija’s expertise really elevated the experience—he took us to some stunning spots and shared fascinating insights about the area. To top it off, he even prepared a delicious meal that added a personal touch to the day. The conversation flowed effortlessly throughout the trip, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

What is the best time of year for Kotor yacht rental?

The best time for sailing in Kotor is between May and September. This is when the city is warmest and driest, as it can get quite rainy at other points in the year. The hottest months are in the summer, with average high temperatures of 28°C however, this is also the busiest time for travel, meaning large crowds. If you don’t mind slightly cooler weather then you should visit in May or September and avoid the summer. You’ll still have plenty of sun, and you’ll even get better deals on Kotor boat rentals!

What can I see and do while on a yacht charter in Kotor?

There is no shortage of things to do in Kotor! This gorgeous city is an up-and-coming travel destination because it offers a wealth of natural beauty and culture to explore. Here is a list of some of our favourite things to do while on a yacht charter in Kotor.

  • Go deep-water diving in the Blue Cave: This breathtaking cave has been formed by centuries of erosion, creating a unique underwater landscape that’s ideal for deep-water diving. The cave is known for its stunning array of colours and marine life, making it one of the best diving spots in Kotor.
  • Discover a shipwreck at Jaz Beach: This is another popular spot for divers who want to enjoy long stretches of untouched coral reefs and explore the remains of an ancient Roman shipwreck. Just a few kilometres away from the beach lies Perast Island, home to some of the most beautiful dive sites in the region. Here divers can come across fascinating rock formations and an array of colourful fish species, including octopus and sea turtles!
  • Sunbathe on pristine beaches: There are many great beaches in Kotor, each one with something different to offer. Head to the southern end of the Bay of Kotor to relax at the secluded Lovcen Beach and if you want a little more action you can go cliff diving! Other great beaches in Kotor offer watersports activities like kayaking, surfing and snorkelling. Some of the best beaches include Plavi Horizonti, Petrovac Beach, Becici and Sutomore Beach.
  • Get in touch with nature: Sail to Lake Skadar National Park. As one of the largest freshwater reserves in Europe, this is a great opportunity for nature lovers and bird watchers alike. Explore the marshlands by boat and keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of rare species like the Dalmatian Pelican or White-Backed Woodpecker.

Should I have a skipper on board my private boat charter in Kotor?

If you have a licence to sail, you might prefer a bareboat vessel however, everyone can benefit from the presence of a skipper on board. Skippers can act as an extra set of hands while you do all of the sailing, or they can take the helm if you want to relax and spend more time with the ones you love. If you don’t have a sailing licence, no problem! Skippers will handle all of the logistics such as docking, anchoring and navigating the vessel, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. The other great thing about having a skipper on board is the fact that they are usually locals, so they can give you advice about where to go and what to see while in Kotor and if you’re lucky, show you some hidden gems.

For an unforgettable sailing holiday and smooth sailing, opt for a skippered vessel for your private yacht rental in Kotor!

What type of boat should I choose for my Kotor yacht rental?

When choosing the right vessel for your sailing holiday, it’s important to think about how much time you’ll be spending on the water, and what you’ll need on board. Daily charters like motorboats and RIBS are recommended for holidays of less than a week whereas a more spacious vessel is ideal for a week or more. Catamarans and yachts are perfect vessels for longer holidays and they have plenty of amenities on board to accommodate all of your needs.

If you fancy a traditional sailing experience, you might like a sailboat however, we recommend choosing a skippered sailboat since these vessels are notorious for being unstable on the water and difficult to navigate. So, which vessel will you choose for your yacht rental in Kotor?
