Description of Alessandro's sailboat
Benello - Freya 45 | 2 Cabins
Freya is a classic boat, designed by Sparkman & Stephens of New York and built by the Cantiere Benello of Livorno. Very slender, excellent course stability, safe in navigation, even in rough seas and strong winds, it is well balanced and stable at any speed. It has a beautiful teak deck, with a large sundeck at the bow and a beautiful closed and sheltered cockpit. The bathing ladder is positioned on the left side, while at the stern there is a teak beach, convenient for going down to the dock. Freya has a stern cabin, with direct access from the cockpit, with two large single berths. It has a bow cabin with two single berths, convertible into a large double bed, with direct access to the deck through the ladder and the large hatch, which gives light and air to the cabin. The dinette has two sofas facing each other, convertible into two berths and two other high berths behind the backrests of the sofas. Two bathrooms, a chart table and a kitchen complete the furnishings of the boat. Freya will welcome you warmly, as soon as you arrive on board you can take a seat in your berths and store your things in the lockers that the boat is equipped with. Then we will do a reconnaissance tour to become familiar with the spaces on board and understand how it works, from the marine toilets, to the kitchen, to the refrigerator, to the use of water and electricity, precious resources. Then we will move on to the topic of Safety, we will examine the on-board equipment and the behaviors to be followed in general. Finally, we will review the sailing and mechanical equipment, with the main maneuvers for sailing and motor navigation, with the use of the autopilot. Generally I try to give a balanced rhythm to the cruises, with a mediation between sailing navigation, stops in the harbors for swimming and naps under the large awning. When planning the navigation we will take into account the weather forecast, which will guide us in choosing the best itineraries and the quietest bays. I like cooking, so I indulge myself every now and then, even if I'm not a great cook, but I find it a relaxing activity and I enjoy dedicating myself to it. Anyone who wants to cook will always be welcome, there will be three burners and an oven at their disposal, as well as a chest refrigerator to store perishable foods. On board we have a decent supply of various pots, dishes and everything needed for good Italian cuisine, always considering that we are on a boat. Freya could be defined as a "classic" boat, with its sleek and elegant lines, it often receives compliments from passing boats, during stops at anchor. It is suitable for those looking for a boat with character and significantly differs from modern standards, while still guaranteeing safe and comfortable navigation, even in adverse conditions. There is no recipe for the perfect cruise, it is a matter of adequately mixing all the factors that compose it, always keeping them monitored and always intervening according to the situations that arise. For this reason, the collaborative and adaptive spirit typical of those who have had experiences of life in a community is required. I must also admit that the freedom that the open space of the Sea gives us makes the tasks much easier and there is always room for all the sailors on board. Freya awaits you. Freya's base is located in the heart of Maremma, below Populonia, ancient land of the Etruscans, in Porto Baratti. It is an enchanting bay with a long beach, crystal clear water and very few settlements. From Baratti you can reach the Island of Elba in a short time, it is the ideal destination for the weekend. There we can visit the Gulf of Procchio, the beach of Biodola, Capo d'Enfola, or on the east side the Gulf of Porto Azzurro, the bay of Ortano, Punta Calamita and to the south the Gulf of Stella and the bay of Lacona. You can instead reach Corsica and Capraia having a week available: Capraia is a fascinating island, a natural reserve area offering incomparable marine spectacles and enchanting bays. It is difficult to find a place in the port, you moor in the harbor and go down with the tender. Excellent restaurants overlook the port, while the old town develops on the hill and is a must-see when visiting the island. Arriving in Corsica instead, you can stop in the Barcaggio bay, or on the beaches facing Cape Corso. Going down the west side of the Corsican finger you come across a village with a small port for small boats, called Cargese: an ancient fishing village, today equipped with nice restaurants and bars to enjoy the sunset from the inlet where the town stands. You moor in the harbor in good weather, protected by the rocks facing the bay. Before arriving in Saint Florant you still come across a couple of beaches for a pleasant stop-swim-lunch. Saint Florant is the main port in the area, with a beautiful equipped marina, and its characteristic houses. It offers the main services and you can restock the on-board galley here. From here begins the Desert des Agriates, a vast desert area, a natural reserve and completely uncontaminated: white beaches and fantastic coves and internal lagoons, frame this stretch of coast and you can't help but stop for a couple of days to enjoy nature. Usually we always return home all regenerated by the sea, the sun, the beaches and sailing.
