We rented a house close to the beach clubs in St Maxime and it was great. The town is low key and has most of what you’d expect from a beach-adjacent town. Definitely rent an e-bike from Azur Bikes; you’ll be able to bike to Grimaud or St Tropez (mostly) along bike paths (it gets a bit hairy nearer to towns), and it opens other nearby possibilities. The ferry to St Tropez is easy but puts you nowhere near the beach clubs (e.g., Club 55, Loulou), so you have to bike / Uber, which is a slight bummer. Coming from a major US city, most of the food is “meh” in this area of France and the menus sort of all look alike, so we cooked at home most nights. Even when we got lunch at swanky places, it was comically bad food and horribly overpriced… but the setting and people-watching is excellent, so, whatever! If you have a car, you can hit Antibes, Nice, etc. for a day trip. We did Antibes and had a blast. All in, I think St Maxime is excellent “base camp”.

We needed a reasonably-priced boat with a captain for the day and Ronny was great! He showed us around Port Grimaud before heading to St Tropez, where we swam and lunched at one of the beach clubs. Post-lunch, we did a bit more sunbathing before heading back to St. Maxime. I would highly recommend him, though I hope the water is warmer on your trip!
