Sailboat hire in Italy

As the poet, Anna Akhmatova once said, “Italy is a dream that keeps returning for the rest of your life.” Home to one of the most diverse landscapes in the world, Italy is a place which keeps on giving. Whether it’s your first time visiting or your hundredth, you will always find a certain natural beauty here which can be found in no other country on earth. It’s time for you to book your next sailboat hire in Italy with Scansail!

Where to sail in Italy?

Whether you’re sailing with your friends, your family or your special someone, an Italian sailing holiday has something for everyone. Whether you fancy discovering the splendours of the Amalfi Coast, the impressive Aeolian Islands or the colourful Cinque Terre villages, you will not be disappointed with your sailboat hire. There are also plenty of places on both the east coast and west coast which have remained off the beaten track, meaning that you will enjoy your sailing experience in a crowd-free environment.

How much does a sailboat charter in Italy cost?

For sailboat hires in Italy, the price will depend on the model you require, the number of people you will be sailing with, the season and duration of the charter, as well as any optional extras you may need. Sailboats can come with or without a skipper. If you hire a skipper, you will be able to experience the Italian coast with a local who knows all of the best spots. However, if you opt for a bareboat charter, you can navigate in the open waters and enjoy a more thrilling sense of freedom.

You can expect to pay an average of £2,250/week per person in the low season and £2,750/week per person in the summer months. Please note that the average price may also vary based on the region you are visiting.

What do we offer?

A sailboat hire in Italy is the best way to unwind from your day-to-day life and embrace the beauty of this country. At Scansail, you can opt for a private yacht charter with a crew who will be here to cater to all of your needs and guide you to the best locations along the coast. They will also take care of activities such as cleaning and dining, meaning that you can relax and enjoy your sailing holiday stress-free. The crew for this exclusive service are employed by the sailboat owner and the costs for this luxury yacht charter will be included in the total.

You also have the option to pay an APA (advanced provisioning allowance) for your sailboat hire in Italy. The APA is an additional cost that is paid in advance and covers all supplements throughout your trip.

The harbours in Italy

There are plenty of marinas and harbours all over the Italian peninsula which are excellent for hiring and mooring your sailboat. Whether you are an amateur or an experienced sailor, we have compiled a list of the best marinas in every corner of the country to make your trip easier:

  • On the Italian Riviera in the North, we recommend mooring your sailboat in Marina of San Lorenzo and Marina di Loano.
  • In the centre of Italy, the most well-equipped and ideal marinas include the Marina Cala de’Medici, the Marina di Punta Ala and the Porto di Pisa.
  • On the island of Sardinia, the Marina Cala dei Sardi on the Costa Smeralda is the perfect oasis for your sailboat hire.
  • In the south, near the Bay of Naples, the best harbours include the Marina of Amalfi and the Porto Turistico di Capri.
  • On the idyllic island of Sicily, our favourites include the Marina di Capo d’Orlando and the Marina Villa Igiea in Palermo.
  • Lastly, if you wish to discover a more authentic side of Italy, we recommend mooring your sailboat in the Porto Santa Maria di Leuca in the region of Apulia - the “heel” of Italy.

When to go on your sailboat hire in Italy?

Italy’s diverse climate has made this country an ideal location for hiring a sailing yacht. The best months for navigating in the Mediterranean are between April and September, when temperatures are high and you can enjoy swimming. July and August are the busiest months to visit the country, but if you fancy a more authentic sailing experience, we recommend hiring your sailboat before or after these months. But fear not, regardless of what season you visit the country, you will always be longing for more!
